Fussy Eaters

Fussy eating is an issue that’s all too common for parents and something the Meraki team are asked about daily. See my tips below!
- Fussy eating can often be a sign of Zinc and Iron deficiency in kids. Did you know that the iron needs of a 6-month-old are higher than they’ll ever be in their entire life?
- Encourage self-feeding and allow them to get messy at mealtimes without too much restriction.
- Let your child regulate their own appetite, you provide the food and they decide what to eat.
- Early repeated exposure (YES! Repeated exposure) to a variety of foods, flavours and textures is imperative.
- Introduce familiar foods in a familiar environment, not in a cafe or at a friend's house with everyone watching.
- Eating meals as a family, where everyone is eating similar things. Modelling of behaviour and habits is so important.
- If there are digestive issues or imbalances, this is going to impact on appetite and also taste receptors so these issues need to be addressed with a one-on-one practitioner consultation
